ROCKFORD (WREX) — Winnebago County Republican Chairman, Eli Nicolosi announced his campaign for state senate in the 35th District.
Incumbent Dave Syverson has served in the Illinois senate for nearly 30 years, but next year Nicolosi will challenge for his seat.
Nicolosi kicked off his campaign for the republican nomination at Midway Village Monday night.
He currently serves as chairman of the Winnebago County Republican central committee. He also served the Winnebago county board from 2014 to 2018.
Nicolosi says he can bring new and fresh ideas to the district.
“I really think I can get down there and do some great things, not only for things like family issues, but also most importantly economic development is really important to me,” Nicolosi said. “We need more jobs here in this area, both in the Rockford Stateline area all the way down to LaSalle all the way out to McHenry county,”
State Senator Dave Syverson released this statement:
“This is the people’s seat and anyone can run for it. I am very proud of all we have accomplished together for our community and for the constituents we serve daily. If the voters so choose I would be honored to continue to represent them.”
